Which clubs make sense for beginners?
For beginners, forgiveness is the top priority. Clubs should still help even when the strike is not perfect.
What to look for:
-
Large club faces: make solid ball contact easier
-
High, easy ball flight: helps with distance and confidence
-
Sensible set composition: you do not need "everything", just the right clubs
Our recommendation for your start:
-
Complete sets / Half Sets are usually ideal for beginners because:
-
the clubs are matched to each other,
-
there are no gaps in your set,
-
you develop a routine more quickly.
-
If you play regularly and notice that you are missing, for example, an extra Wedge or a Hybrid, you can add these specifically later on. At the beginning, "too much choice" is often more of an obstacle than a benefit.

Golf equipment for beginners – the most frequently asked questions
What equipment do I need as a beginner golfer?
To get started, you need a complete set or Half Set of golf clubs, golf balls, a glove, Tees, as well as suitable golf clothing and golf shoes. A golf bag completes the basic equipment - you do not need more than that for your first rounds.
Complete set or individual golf clubs - which is better for beginners?
How much does a complete golf equipment setup for beginners cost?
A solid beginner golf setup is already possible for EUR 300-500 - including a club set, bag, shoes, glove, and basic accessories. If you want to invest step by step, you can start with the club set and add to your equipment over time.
Do I need special golf shoes as a beginner?
Yes - golf shoes are required on the course because they provide the necessary grip during the swing and protect against wet conditions. Good entry-level models are available for under EUR 100 and are a worthwhile investment from the start. For getting started on the Driving Range, however, sturdy athletic shoes or sneakers are fine at first.
Is there a dress code on golf courses?
Most golf clubs require a golf polo as well as appropriate trousers, shorts, or a skirt. Especially for beginners, it is worth checking the dress code of the respective club in advance and equipping yourself accordingly. Although most golf clubs now take a more relaxed approach to golf clothing, appropriate golf wear is still appreciated. In addition, functional cuts and lightweight materials make playing easier in different weather conditions.
Do I need rainwear as a beginner golfer?
If you want to play regularly, golf rainwear is almost essential - rounds are rarely cancelled because of bad weather. Even affordable rain jackets and rain trousers provide reliable protection and make it possible to play regardless of the weather.
